You Won't Believe Your Eyes (An EFX Story)

I had the great pleasure of going done to Leeuwin last night for Michael's second concert - during the show he told a great little story about a mishap with trousers that happened in EFX. Michael had been explaining about the time that he had lost his trousers early in his career - the infamous "Little Sweep" episode. He went on to say that it took him another 30 years before he lost them again. This time it was in Vegas doing EFX.

In one scene he appears as the ghost of Houdini singing a beautiful duet with "Beth," his wife. Michael said that he was supposed to be lowered down from about the stage on a saddle and stirrup type contraption which went up underneath his trousers. Now his had two dressers for that scene and on this particular night the lower dresser had not quite secured the trousers as tightly as they should be. So as Michael started being lowered down from the flies, his gave way and the pants slipped down around his knees.

(By this time the audience was losing it and Michael himself had to get a drink of water cause he was laughing so hard.)

Apparently there were a lot of Asian businessmen and their wives in the audience that night and Michael did a wonderful impersonation of them saying, "Ah,what is this for Western Culture? A supposedly dead man seranading his wife with his pants around his knees and a great black saddle poking out between his legs."

(Thank goodness we were in an open-aired venue - the laughter of six thousand people in an enclosed space would have been deafening!!)

As we all lost it completely Michael held up his hand "But wait, it gets worse!" he said. He then went on to explain what *part* of the song he was singing when this was going on.

"Don't be afraid
Don't be surprised
I know with me you never could believe your eyes!"

It took the audience a full five minutes to regain their composure so he could continue the show.

It could only happen to our Michael!
